
The Haunted Mansion
A downloadable game
Players must explore the mansion, uncover clues, and unravel the mystery surrounding the ghosts to escape. Along the way, they must avoid hostile monsters and overcome challenges. The key to victory is correctly deducing the events and story that the ghosts are hiding.
How to play:
Character Selection:
Players choose different characters, each with unique abilities. Each player gets the same amount of "Life tokens" as their maximum Health Points as listed on the Character Description.
The Mansion:
The mansion is constructed using modular pieces, allowing players to arrange the board as they wish.
Dice:
- Each player has a D20 die, used to determine outcomes such as escaping traps, opening chests, and finding objects.
- All players share two D6 dice, which are used to move across the spaces on the board.
Ghosts:
- Hostile Ghosts (Monsters): Attack players when encountered, so proceed cautiously when exploring the house.
- Friendly Ghosts: These ghosts know the mansion's mystery and will attempt to communicate non-verbally to help solve it. At the start of the game, they select one card from each category (Object, Weapon, Book, Magic, and Year) to form the game’s answers, placing them in the "Answer Envelope." They must also create a story explaining the events in the mansion.
- If a player dies, they join the ghosts and assist in providing hints.
Riddles:
- To progress to new rooms or unlock specific items, one of the ghost players will draw a card from the "Riddle Deck" and read it to the active player. If the player solves the riddle, they can progress.
- Failure: If they fail, they lose the number of hit points specified on the card. The player can choose whether to continue attempting the riddle or not.
- Hints: Players can ask for a hint if stuck on a riddle, but doing so doubles the damage for failure.
- For characters with advantages: Using hints adds 1 point of damage. If they fail, they take only half damage.
Damage:
- When damage is inflected over a character the player must dispose of the proper amount of "Life Tokens"
Victory/Defeat:
- Victory: The game is won when players correctly identify the cards chosen by the ghosts and uncover the story behind them. Players can only make one guess per round.
- Defeat: The game ends in failure if all players are killed or if they fail to solve the mansion’s mystery.
Characters:
The Madam:
- Can collect 2 clues at once.
- 5 HP.
- Has an advantage in solving riddles.
The Nun:
- Can give extra clue cards to up to 3 players (once every 3 turns).
- 5 HP.
- Has an advantage in solving riddles.
The Medium:
- Can communicate with ghosts (can read the notebook).
- 6 HP.
The Escapist:
- Has an advantage in escaping traps.
- 4 HP.
- Can free 1 character every 2 turns.
